Family Event and Work Day a huge success
We had a wonderful day in the field on Saturday 13 April. The sun shone throughout and for the first time, we held a family event on the same day as our work day. Paddy Hayes led the family event and there was a mix of activities including pond dipping, plant identification and nature art. The children were so engaged and we even got them building dry wood fences!
We also had a really productive work day. In January/February this year we were advised to fell 20 diseased trees, mostly suffering from ash die back. We now have to deal with the felled trees so on Friday, our volunteers, Mike Oxborrow and Bob Gingell, used a chainsaw so that we could continue clearing the field on Saturday. We are creating new log piles, building new dry fences and piling up the brush wood for chipping to use on our paths.
Next steps - plant new replacement trees! We planted about 30 teeny ones on Saturday but the rest will have to wait until Autumn!
