Wildlife haven, Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) and Community Space
Welcome to Pensford Field Environmental Trust
About us
We are a small charitable organisation dedicated to the care of an area of land in the very heart of residential Kew, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which contains woodland, dead wood (loggeries), a pond, meadow, a wildlife corridor and bee hives.
Pensford Field is a haven for wild flowers, birds and insects. It is a site of importance for nature conservation (SINC) and a designated area of tranquility (TFL). It also inspires art, children’s play and education. See our Code of Conduct here.
As custodians of the Field, the Trust seeks to follow a programme of active and sustainable management to promote nature conservation, to encourage environmental education and to enhance the biodiversity value of Pensford Field for future generations. The trustees aim to maintain the field in its natural state, encouraging natural species to flourish.
The principal remit of our charity is the promotion of education about the local environment, and throughout the year we organise many events for schools and members of the local community. If you wish to find out more about future events, please visit the Future Events section of this site or sign up for news by email. You may also be interested in looking at a selection of pictures taken of the field in the last few years.
As a non-profit organisation we rely on donations and various fundraising events to fund the management plan, and volunteers to make it happen! If you would like to help out at one of our Saturday work-days, please get in touch.
Funds are used for, among other things, tools and other essential equipment plus robust sheds to house these items. The indispensable studio has to be maintained and utilities paid for. Sometimes we have to employ garden help, in addition to the monthly volunteers, for the pond and other large projects. Finally, there is insurance for the site and public liability which can amount to over £500 pa.
In 2024, Lord Darroch of Kew, local resident and former UK National Security Adviser and Ambassador to the United States became the patron of Pensford Field. To find out more, follow this link.

Summer Party Picnic Film 2024
Filmed by Victoria Weatherby and Norman Harvey. The weather was a bit of a washout at our Summer Party but this little film sums up the spirit of people who came and what a valuable resource Pensford Field is for our community. We made nearly £800 with the help of sponsorship by Antony Roberts.
