Summer Party and Talks on Reptiles and Amphibians, Weeds or Wildflowers

Dear Friends,

We very much hope you will be able to join us for our Summer Party on the afternoon of Saturday 19 July at 1.30pm. If the weather forecast is terrible we may cancel but we will send an email to our Friends and put a notice on our website. This is a free event given we are no longer raising funds for the future of Pensford Field with only a few months to run on our lease.

Please come and help at our next two Work Days on 10 May and 14 June from 10am to 12 noon. Both of these are followed by talks starting at 12.30 pm. You can just come to the talk although you are welcome to both. The talks are free but you still need to reserve a place.

Join us on Saturday, May 10 2025 at 12.30pm for a walk and talk exploring the world of Native Amphibians and Reptiles. The walk/talk will be led by John Salisbury, Ecology Policy and Planning Officer for the London Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth and leading light at the London Amphibian and Reptile Group. In May, the pond at Pensford Field, is still teeming with signs of new life. He will advise us on what we can do to conserve amphibians and reptiles in urban environments and the importance of ponds in our gardens and in sites such as Pensford Field. The walk and talk will be similar to one given by John in March 2024 although with more emphasis on what we can do in our own gardens for reptiles and amphibians. To reserve a free place, book on Eventbrite .

Join us on Saturday 14 June at 12.30pm for a talk by Katrina Roche, Trustee, local gardener and freelance garden writer with a blog, weedsrootsleaves.com

As well as looking at a few common plants which are sources of food for caterpillars and adult moths and butterflies, Katrina will encourage us to consider some garden weeds as wildflowers which will increase the biodiversity in our gardens. To reserve a free place, book on Eventbrite.

It is lovely to be sending you an email just about events and talks but at the same time, the sword of Damocles is still hanging over us we know this will probably be our last Summer nurturing and managing the field after a third of a century. I will update you on how things stand with the Council shortly, but support for us is still building - here is a link to a letter dated 11 April written by the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Green Party), Chris Warlow, to the Leader of the Council asking some very pertinent questions. We look forward to seeing a reply!

All best,

Sarah
